Why Zi begins with 925 sterling silver | Zi Origin

Before any metal becomes part of Zi, we ask a simple question: will it still look good in five years?
It also has to sit comfortably next to the jewellery you already own, and it shouldn’t need a long explanation to make sense.

925 sterling silver gets a yes on all counts. So that’s where we start.

What 925 sterling silver means

The number is a measure of purity. 925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, with a small amount of other metals added for strength. Pure silver is lovely but too soft for jewellery you’ll use every day, and the alloy is what helps a piece keep its shape. Every Zi silver piece carries a BIS Hallmark, India’s official certification of silver purity, so you never have to take our word for it.

Why we chose silver

It feels cool when you first put it on, then slowly takes on the warmth of your skin. It picks up light gently rather than flashing it back at you. And it goes with almost everything, from a plain white shirt to the ring your loved ones gave you. We didn’t settle for silver. We chose it.

How each piece is finished

Our silver is finished with rhodium plating, which keeps the shine longer and helps hold off tarnish. Every Zi piece is also nickel-free, lead-free and hypoallergenic, so you can put it on in the morning and forget about it until bedtime.

Beyond silver: titanium is next

Silver is our starting point, but we don’t plan to stop there. Titanium, with a touch of gold, is the next metal joining the house. It’s lighter than silver, stronger than steel and doesn’t tarnish. You can pair it with your silver pieces or let it stand on its own.

Fewer pieces, more often

We’d rather you own three pieces you reach for every day than ten that sit in a drawer. Whatever the metal, that’s the thinking behind everything we make
